Cuban Modern
Anara Frank
Cuban Modern is a codified technique created in the 1960s that is still used as the primary foundation of all dance training in Cuba today, along with training in it’s three main roots: American Modern (particularly Graham, Cunningham and Sokolow), Classical Ballet, and Traditional Afro-Cuban Dance & Music. Fathered by Ramiro Guerra, it continues to serve as inspiration for new generations of Contemporary and Latin dancers, instructors and choreographers, as they stretch the limits of the human body, and explore the depths of human expression.
This course focuses on undulating motion of arms and torso, and the use of the pelvis as the motor center to develop larger and more fluid movements. Leave with new techniques and movement vocabulary to enrich your performance for every level of Contemporary and Latin Dance.
This course is developed and taught by Anara Frank, whose training & certifications include many styles of Afro-Latin Dance, Contemporary Dance & Acro/Gymnastics, as well as fusion work in these and other genres. Anara is a Boston native, but has spent almost as much time in Cuba—visiting since she was a child, and receiving much of her dance education there. Since the 1990’s, she has trained numerous dancers in the Casino style, as well as taught it’s history and explained the similarities and differences with other Latin Dance styles.
